  • There is no "absolute standard" of morality. All morality is subjective.
  • no, not any more
  • I don't think there is..I would like to say "being truthful" but we shade the truth to shore up our own belief system..the "truth" for Republicans differs from that of the Democrats..the "truth" for Christians differs from that of Jews or Muslims..they are all "the truth" and none of them are "the truth"..that goes for anything else you can think of..so, unless we all agree on one specific interpretation of anything, there can be no "absolute" standard of moral value or anything else, in my opinion! :(
  • Well, there are, but not everyone agrees with them.
  • I think there are absolutes when it comes to morality. I think history proves that mankind's actions line up with a list of absolutes. We, in today's "advanced" society, have chosen to ignore them because following absolutes gets in the way of doing what we want to do.
  • I would say that it cannot be proved that there is an absolute standard but we have to exist and so we work in the conditional, subjective environment of everyday life. We are inspired by the idea of absolutes to aim for (eg. love) and horrified by the failures (so errors of justice)and so in our limited human way, we try to get closer to perfection. We might never get it perfect but we try our best by various ways like concensus and experience.
  • Yes absolutely. The easiest rule seems to: That what you would never want you never should inflict to another person. And you will see the same thought is the base of any religion I know.
  • "First, Do No harm" (from "Primum non nocere" in Latin)
