I am giving my landlord a 30 day notice that I am moving per my rental agreement. It states "all monthly payments shall be paid one month in advance." Does that mean I've already paid my last month's rent?

On my agreement that just means that I pay for the month before the month occurs... like today is September 1st, today I have to go drop off a check for my September rent. This means I have paid for this month in advance, instead of paying for september's rent on september 30th.

Generally, this means the up front money is used for skippers, or people that leave before the lease has ended. the advance payment covers part or most of the early exit.

In the beginning, if you made a month-in-advance deposit and are leaving in good standing, normally the deposit will be refunded. of course, this has to be in writing and in your lease agreement.

For further questions, read your lease agreement first, then talk with your landlord.
