Question

I have a four year old who does not spit out toothpaste when I brush his teeth. I use Crest whitening gel. I only put a little on his toothbrush because he does swallow the toothpaste. I worry it may do some damage later. Could it?

you should only be using kids toothpaste for kids his age there is too much floride in our toothpaste with the floride in our water and the supliment your kid should still be taking your child may overdose on floride
and if you use the kids toothpast they can swallow it no problem and you can teach them to spit it out in the meantime

Talk to your pharmasist, he will be able to tell you wich toothpastes are the best for your child. The childrens toothpastes have the same amount of flouride as the adult toothpastes, there is toddlers training toothpaste that is safe to swallow, Orajel makes it, I use it on my sons teeth, he's 2. Or as the others have stated try a natural brand.

There are children's toothpaste that are safe to swallow. If they are not availible where you live then I would go with the baking soda all though it tastes really bad so I don't know if you will be able to get him to brush his teeth with it.

You also might want to explain to him that swallowing the toothpaste is bad for him and practice with him how to spit things out.

P.S. Too much floride in a person's system causes floradosis which ironically damages the teeth.

It could, maybe over time. Everyone reacts differently to different amounts of substances. If you are worried then play it safe: Buy a natural brand toothpaste that you won't have to worry about if your kid swallows some.

Reduce your worries, you'll live longer and be happier for it.

yes, find a better toothpaste. Tom's or Burt's Bees is good. You may want to invest in toothpaste for yourself as well. Commercial toothpaste is full of dangerous chemicals.

A kid's toothpaste is what you need to be using. I use Orajel brand training toothpaste, the one with Little Bear on it. My son is two.

They have special toothpaste for kids, you kid should not be ingesting whitening products and if your not able to find them, go to a natural foods store and pick up some Toms which wont hurt him if he swallows it.
