Question

Help answer this question below.

I've read on some sites that if you smoke weed when you are on prescription antidepressants it can help with some of the side effects (nausea) but on a lot of sites it says that you shouldnt mix them. does anyone know? (to avoid a lecture, its not for me)

Firstly, newer anti-depressants should NOT be causing nausea...if they are then you (or whoever) should find a different med. The side effects should be EXTREMELY mild and disappear within the first couple of weeks.

  • I smoke weed, and it's never helped me with any pain or nausea. Any time I feel ill, I put it down because it does not help at all. It does help with anxiety and appetite. The worst thing I can do if I feel the flu coming on is smoke weed. Ick.

I'm on Cipralex (known as Lexapro in the states) and I smoked weed for the first time on it the other day.
It was the scariest feeling of my life, it was like coming down from a really hard drug. I was paranoid, anxious, jumpy at any voices or sudden movements, and I was extremely nauseous and sick from it.
I know it wasn't the amount of weed I smoked, it was less than I normally have, so it was the mixing of drugs.
I have no idea why that happens, or what exactly did happen, but I looked around the web and found out that it has happened to others too.
I don't recommend weed while on antidepressants, and the one I'm on is a newer one.
Your choice, you might be effected less than me, but I would say not to risk it.

Regarding anti-depressants, I think it's more worth considering the chemical alterations in one's body as a result of smoking marijuana or taking anti-depressants, and if those changes from each,(when combined) are safe or smart to attempt, nausea from anti-depressants is one thing, but possibly something much worse (from a combinatin of the two) could be far worse, and should be considered.

ive been on cipralex for a few months now and smoked marijuana quite a few times on cipralex. To be honest, it didnt affect me at all, during or post my high. I felt fine and if anything it made my high more mellow, 'seratonin' maybe the reason you felt shitty after you took tokes was because weed isnt the drug for you anymore. If you've smoked a lot prior to this, you could be beginning negative side effects when you burn. I have had a few friends trip after or during their highs simply because they can't burn anymore, their body rejects marijuana in a way. If you're unsure 'somehwhat anonymous' I wouldnt risk it because having a bad high is scary! Smoking marijuana on an anxiety medication didn't affect me personally, but you never know as how you react to drugs changes person to person.
