How far must one be from an airport in order to safely and legally fly model rockets?

    These days (since 9/11) I would like to think that you need to be pretty far away. So far that there is not even the 'appearance' of a threat.

    I think it's technically 5 miles, but there are some model rocket clubs that fly from airports. I'd call the airport just to make sure. Make sure to have altitude and weight information handy.

    For this information, you need to call your local airport authority. your intended launch pad, cannot be anywhere near the glide path of departing or landing aircraft.
