I have a 2000 Chevy blazer and the check engine light is on. I changed the rear 02 sensor but the check engine light didn't turn off. What is the problem?

I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer and a few weeks ago my "check engine" light came on.

To alleviate failing an emissions test, I had it tuned up changing the; spark plugs, distributor cap, wires and changed the oil and air filters. However, this did not solve the check engine light problem.

In fact, my truck ran smooth for about a day before my mechanic friend shot the codes. This extinguished the"check engine" light for about one day which illuminated again. Additionally, the truck wouldn't crank over intermittently.

I took my truck to a Master Mechanic at a teaching facility who told me the 6th cylinder was misfiring despite the new plugs and wires. I rechecked the plug, spacing and changed the battery. Now my truck won't start at all and I'm stuck without a vehicle not to mention I can't pass emissions.

    Please advise

I have the same problem, the light used to come on when it rained, then it would go off when the rain stopped. It came back on again (no rain) and it hesitates when going up hill. should I change the spark plus and wires?

Perhaps you have already solved the problem but if not please read on. Without a code book I'm not sure but I would suspect the EGR valve needs to be changed. You may want to unplug the ECM (computer) and let it stand disconnected over night and then re-hook it up in the morning which will reset the computer. Disconnect the Neg terminal when you do this. You will need to drive about 15 miles for it to truly reset itself. Been there, done that and it usually works. An intake manifold gasket leak could also be a problem. Look for a vacuum line that is half on or cracked when you move it around. Or one could be collapsed. Also a leaking injector or injector "O" rings could be in need of replacing. Check to see if the engine is getting to the proper temp. If not, replace the thermostat with a stainless steel one or a heavy duty stat. A weak spark remotely could be a problem but performance would definately be hindered. Here is a trick I have learned over the 40 years of working on and off on vehicles. Usually an engine will stumble due to weak spark and spark that is drained off but try it anyway. Wait till it is dark out and let your eyes get accustomed to the dark. Do not use a flashlight. Then run your engine and look for any arcing out from the coil or distributor cap since you have already replaced the wires. I had one recently do that with new wires that were only a few months old and they were not cheap ones either. I had to replace the wires again and the coil. That solved the problem of arcing. There are many things that cause the light to go on. The codes are sometimes inaccurate. A plugged up PCV may also be the problem. An air sensor, such as the air temp sensor or mass air sensor will cause the light to go on. Something to consider is putting a TBI spacer plate under the TBI unit will help out on leaning your mixture for better mileage and performance. Just a suggestion as we can all use better mileage but not related to the problem. I truly hope these suggestions will help you out. Have a great week! Henry

Contact your local auto parts store, IE: Auto Zone and have them do a code run on it, for free. This will give you a quick and simple way to find out why the light keeps coming on.
