Something about you made him suspicous. Clothing, way the clothing is worn, actions, where you were, who you were, etc. Or maybe he was bored and wanted some human contact. They get bored too. Or, maybe he felt like being a pain in the butt.
-
Uh ... because it's what they're paid to do? Hmm. Ya think??
-
just walking around to a cop makes people look suspicous weather its out of boardom or just haveing fun. they think that you are up to something or doing drugs so that is how they will investagate.

I'm not sure in your case, but maybe there was some suspicious activity in that area. . My brother and one of his friends were climbing at one of the nearby colleges' climbing wall, and they were stopped, frisked, and put on the ground by five police officers. it turns out that there was a reported raping in that area by two teenage boys that apparently somewhat matched their descriptions. . It could have been something like that, or maybe the fact that you weren't doing anything looked suspicious to them. I don't know, but I usually try to give the police a break because after all, they are trying to keep us safe.

A police officer has the same right to try and talk to you as anyone else. If they don't have probable cause to stop ("seize") you, you can keep walking and you have no obligation to talk to him. Your refusal to talk, on its own, cannot give rise to probable cause to stop or search you.
-
They probably thought you and your friend looked suspicious. I could be wrong, though. In the city I live in, people who aren't white complain about this happening to them a lot. I'm not sure about the colour of your skin, but you're definitely not the only one who has been in that situation.

Just to let you know they're there. Same reason alot of cruisers have the reflective stripes painted down the sides of their vehicles. Makes their presence known. It can be a good deterrent.
-
come on. i hope he didn't trouble you. its his job to question suspicious(sometimes non-suspicious) people. and there should not be any problem for you untill he has caused one. cheer up.
-
Maybe he was bored and just wanted to talk, maybe you look suspicious, maybe, someone that fit your description, did something.
-
im sure their intention wasnt to but into anything. The area could be known for suspicious activity and they just want to see whats going on. I doubt they thought you guys were "Criminals", but like one poster said, thye want to be seen and made present
-
It's called patrolling. You're lucky. The cops around here are in the call and responde mode. No patrolling, means very little prevention.
-
Around here, cops stop any teenagers walking around and question them, even though there are plenty of adults -- that crack addicts, pedophiles, and murderers -- to take care of. Maybe they're just bored and lazy where you are.
-
cops do this if you are new to the area, haven't hung out at that location before.they are suspicious of every little thing.they are looking to see if you are up to no-good... they have a quota to fill...
