  • Their bodies are designed to withstand the pressure of the depths at which they live. As one example, I used to go to Mexico with a friend to fish the Sea of Cortez. The common fish there is called a "trigger fish" and is a bottom dweller. You typically catch them in about 150 feet of water. By the time you get them up to around 50-60 feet they will quit fighting because their insides start coming out. By the time you get them to the surface, their guts have come out their mouths, and their eyes have popped. (This is obviously not for catch and release, I eat what I catch). Their bodies are so accustomed to the pressure of the deep water that they cannot survive in shallower depths.
