  • The most common reason for giving a person a "not useful" for a supplied answer is that the user found that the answer supplied was not particularly useful.
  • I will rate an answer 'not useful' if it is too incomplete, too rude, or contains major factual errors. If it is an opinion-type answer, I will rate it down if it shows arrogance or intolerance.
  • I always rate an answer as "not useful" if the answer given is an opinion, and the question is not asking for an opinion. Where I see this most often is when people answer based upon their moral or religious beliefs, rather than based upon the scientific facts/evidence. I really hate it when someone spouts off religious gibberish in response to questioners who are seeking assistance with topics such as birth control, pregnancy and abortion. I'm still trying to understand why people have rated down THIS answer. I gave my reasons why I would rate down an answer, as part of what I assumed would be multiple answers to LF's question. I would expect that whether you agree with my reasons or not, the fact that I supplied an answer to this question would make it useful. I guess this is just another example of people rating down an answer if they don't like it or if they disagree with it.
  • I try to only rate something not useful if it is offensive ie lots of cuss words or telling somoneone that their kid needs to be smacked around. Or if it gives such horrible miss information that it could cause emotional or physical harm. I do not give a not useful rating just because I don't agree with the person especially if the question requires an opinion.
  • if it offends you, such as alot of cussing or u jsut really dont like their answer
  • I would rate an answer down, if it was spam, or someone posting an answer just to post an answer. Or if it was a really really stupid answer. Or if the person was being pretentious and talking like their opinion/answer is the best and the only one that should be considered. And the really mean ones. Or if I really completely disagree.
