Drives used by all computer companies are bought from drive manufacturers that all use industry standard electrical, mechanical, and dimensional shapes. There are two primary types of Laptop hard drvies (there are others, but those are reserved for IPODS and the like). The first kind is IDE and the other type is SATA. If both computers use the IDE interface or both USE SATA then it would be ok to swap them.

It depends on the which of the two interfaces it uses.

(E.G. If you have two printers, one firewire and one usb, you could not plug the USB printer in the firewire port and vice versa. Same of IDE and SATA.)

If you just want to switch them out and go about your business, it won't work.

If you wipe the drive, reinstall the OS and install all needed drivers you should be OK to go.
