  • The litigants pay for the rulings. The show just films the proceedings.
  • I *think* that on The People's Court, the litigants are paid out of a fund..whatever judgement the plaintiffs get is/was paid out of it (or at least it used to be), I don't know bout the others.
  • They give some information at the end of the show but its so much to read and it's up for like 3 seconds so it's impossible to read the whole thing. I've wondered the same thing myself. I had heard that the show pays everything. I think there is a fund set aside. The show pays if the judge finds action against one of them and they then split the rest of the amount left over. Weird, huh?
  • According to a 20/20, I think it was, behind the show type episiode, it was said that the producers of Judge Judy pays for the decisions. Could be why the litigants take all that verbal assaults from her. People's Court, both get a few bucks. Any judgement higher then the few hunderd you get you pay for.
  • On peoples court I think it works like this. Each person is paid $2500.00 to be on the TV show. Then they have the trial and can win or lose their money. If you lose your case, you pay the other person the $2500.00 you would have been paid.
  • I understand the litigants are paid a small amount to appear on the show, e.g., $100 plus travel, lodging and meal expenses. The producers of the show pay these expenses in addition to establishing a fund limit of $5,000 per case from which the defendent's and litigant's settlements are paid. The general rule for payout is: after the suit and countersuit are paid out of the fund, the plaintif and defendant are each given 50% of what's left in the fund. If the case is dismissed, each get $2,500. If the plaintif wins a $1,500 settlement, he/she gets a total of $3,250 and the defendant receives $1,750.
  • The way I understand it there is a 'Fund' that is initially divided between the two parties. What is awarded to one is taken out of the others share. I believe all the previous answers were correct to different degrees.
