  • The short answer to your first question is 'ignorance' which, of course, leads to prejudice and avoidance. The second question is a good one and demands huge debate....'twas ever thus. Double standards are alive and well in every culture, based on eons of oppression of women. Women didn't wear 'trousers' as a normal way of dressing until the second world war...and that garb was popularized by Katherine Hepburn in the 40's and 50's. So, even we, in our so-called modern culture, have only been 'dressing like men' openly for 50 years or so. And crossdressing men are only peeking out of the dressing room...but it is becoming more and more open as a choice. Trans gendered people are a biological phenomenon...not to be confused with crossdressing and/or homosexuality. Worth researching in Wikipedia or by Googling.
  • Honestly I couldn't care one way or the other. It's not my life. It's thiers.
  • Interesting question... I don't find it disgusting at all, I would even go so far as to say i thinks it's great...
  • Not everyone does. Those that do generally find it to be uncomfortable. They just aren't used to it. For instance, women have been wearing pants and such for quite a while now. Jeans are pretty much gender neutral now. We are used to it. The same cannot be said of a man in a dress. Other people have fear and prejudice as their main factors, but I don't think this is the case with most people. I just think it makes them uncomfortable because it sticks so far out from their normal experiences.
  • I believe that it is partly the fact that it's unusual, which is a self-reinforcing norm, and also partly a power issue. If women were viewed as stronger than men, it would be less threatening for men to adopt women's clothes as their own. Most of what little negative feedback I get for wearing short skirts, pantyhose, and high heels publicly as a man is from other men. The vast majority of women are either indifferent, or enjoy it.
  • I don't mind...as long as they don't borrow my high heels
