Sore throats can be caused by several things. they can also be a fore runner to other infections. - Many sore throats are viral. This means they won't respond to antibiotics, not unlike colds. Sore throats often preceed a cold, this means they can last a couple of days before and into the cold itself. - When the nose and sinuses are infected, the drainage can run down the back of your throat and irritate or infect it, so sinusitis is one possible cause. (You'd expect a sore throat of this nature to be worse of a morning/ after you wake up, and gradually ease off through the day). - Strep throat is a serious possibility, especially if you have a high temperature. A test is needed to determine this cause though. If you are diagnosed with Strep throat, you'll most probably need a course of antibiotics, because Strp throat can occasionally cause Rheumatic fever. - Tonsillitis often causes sore throats that lst a few days. If you suffer from this frequently, then it'd probably be worthwhile consulting your GP over whether you should have a Tonsillectomy. - Breathing through the mouth can dry out the throat and irritate it, making it sore.

As people said, it could be a cold. In my experience allergies can often cause you to have a prolonged "itchy" and sore throat. If you are are singer or actor, it could also be brought on by too much talking/singing, and/or stress regarding upcoming performances (I've had this happen to me before). My recommendation (from years as a singer/cold and allergy sufferer) is to: - avoid milk products - take it easy on long conversations - get lots of sleep and stay out of the cold - avoid smoking or smokey places (obvious) - make yourself some soothing tea: e.g. put the following in a small pot of water on your stove: - some fresh ginger (peel it and cut it into small pieces) - a fresh lemon (peel it and cut it up) - add honey - add cloves and cinnamon if you have them Cover the pot and boil all of this for about 10 minutes. If it ends up being too strong for you you can add more water to dilute it. This is great for sore throats, and colds in general. Works like magic. :-)
