  • Your piercer (or any good piercer really) will know or can tell by looking. Very likely it's a 16g, possibly a 14g. Next time, ask what gauge they are piercing it at. If you have calipers, you can tell that way, or find someone with a gauge/millimeter measuring card. If it's been healed long enough to take out the jewelry for awhile, take it out and find a good ruler. 14g is 1.6mm or 1/16". 16g is 1.2mm.
  • Mine were 16 gauge and that was as thin as I would go with my piercer's recommendation. I was told that the larger the gauge (the thinner the jewelry) the longer it takes to heal. 16 gauge is pushing it, 14 gauge is better, however, I thought that 14 gauge would look silly. Also, you could always swap to a larger gauge (thinner jewelry) later. You cannot stretch cartilage more than one gauge... if that.
  • they are usually a 14g if you didn't request anything different.
