For "big" companies, Texas is 1st, NY is 2nd, CA is 3rd. The state of incorporation and the corporate headquarters do not necessarily correlate.
For decades it has been Delaware. They have the most friendly legal environment for the incorporation of companies. Very business friendly.
I believe that's Delaware, because of their corp-friendly state taxation policies.
Is Delaware a state? I thought it was an independent country.

Texas is king of the hill when it comes to corporate headquarters. The Lone Star State passed New York as home to the most big companies in the latest list compiled by Fortune magazine. Texas now boasts 58 headquarters, three more than New York, the previous No. 1, and California, with 52.
