Were they reusable?
-
I would assume that they were reusable, and therefore not at all contrary to the point of Earth Day. If you bring them in when you shop instead of using disposable bags, it would save a lot of resources
-
Not if they were reusable bags. Many stores are now selling and giving out canvas shopping bags. Now, if they are handing out thin plastic Earth Day bags... that is definitely contrary.
-
they're probably reusable bags, in which case no it isn't contrary

I got some too at the supermarket. They are reuseable and will stop my use of plastic. If Earth Day is to really have an impact we need to let big business in at the table to make it really matter. Frankly, it is about time. It's also time for high-minded Eco Freaks to step down from their pedestals and welcome business to the movement. They polute heavily, so without them all the other stuff is like sneezing in the wind....It is pointless.

I think it was a great idea. It's a start to getting people off their plastic bag/paper bag habit and maybe they will buy a few more for their larger shopping days and start using the reuseable bags instead. It's like getting them hooked. I think it's a great idea all around. If it works for just 1-2 per hundred bags, it's a good idea.

Hell, no. Right on the money! Down with plastic bags.
-
That's awesome, I had to buy mine. It is more efficiant to reuse these bads than plastic or paper one time. Wish my supermarket did that!:)
-
weren't the "earth day" bags made out of recycled plastic bags?? that is what they do at my store. I think it is a good idea to make people more aware.
-
Awesome idea - for 'Earth Day' only though. If they were to always give out free ones then eventually it would be just another wasted resource. We've been using recyclable shopping bags for quite some time now - beats plastic bags in strength and quality too. Plastic grocery bags are actually partially made from recycled fish-oils and byproducts, but are not reusable like a canvas bag is.
