  • In general it doesn't make much difference. The typical male may be stronger willed and harder to train, but stay on task better than females typically are. Males tend to be more affectionate. However, there is a tremendous overlap. Best to look at other things like health and temperament and take whatever sex you find. Then spay/neuter it. One of the best sources for dogs with a predictable personality is the rescue dogs. These are dogs that lost their home, but were taken into a foster home to be retrained as necessary and placed in the right home for them. You may find a rescue near you starting at http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm The rescues charge a fee to help cover their expenses, but is much less than the price of a puppy plus all its medical expenses the first year.
  • There is no difference, when choosing any dog you should choose by health. If possible, choose a less dominant dog, if you are looking for a Pit-bull try www.petfinder.com there are thousands of pitty waiting for a home most will not be adopted and be put to sleep as the get a bad rap. These dogs are sweet and loving all are temper tested.
  • The Male is definitly the better choice, reason is because the female you have to worri about when shes in heat or pay to get her fixed. The males are usually more affectionate. and they become very loyl. ensure that they grow up with kids arround them. if they are not use to kids they tend to see them as a threat. they can become very overprotective and jelous
  • well ive had staffies for years and years and what i have found out is the males tend to be more energetic and boisterous where the females just like to lie down and chill out around the house. dont get me wrong they both need a lot of exercise but the females tend to be more relaxed. i dont think one is better than the other though.
  • I own, raise, train, and occaisionally breed American Pit Bull Terriers. I have seen males that were very difficult to train and I currently own a very bullheaded and dificult Female. I also own a Female who has always been very obedient her whole life and I have a Male that is extremely well behaved. IMO, it is the actual dog, some males are better, some females are better. I think you should find a good breeder who you can talk to and who will allow you to spend a few hours with the puppies, and even visit a few times over a few days or weeks with the pups so you can monitor the ones that you are most interested in. You should also explain to the breeder what qualities you are looking for and ask him/her to keep a close eye on the pups and let you know which ones are closest to what you are looking for.
  • i dont think it makes a lot of differance, its how you bring them up. my male is lovely and a big wuss! his sister is braver then him! males are cheaper to castrate though. x
