  • peanut butter is bad for dogs period because they might have allergies just like humans to peanuts.
  • It is normally okay, but some dogs could have a bad reaction, in this case don't insist. 1) Bad food for dogs are: - alcohol, onions, grapes, cofee, chocolate, yeast, garlic, *macadamia* nuts. Source: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2007/10/pets/dog-poisons-interactive Never use *macadamia* nuts!!! 2) "I have never heard that peanut butter is bad for dogs. Where did you hear it from? Peanut butter is often given to dogs as a treat. You can ever buy dog biscuits made with peanut butter." "Peanut butter is probably considered bad for dogs for the same reasons it is considered bad for humans....processed food, high in sugar, high in fat....there is also the risk of aflatoxins, which I think is minimal." "I give my dog the all natural peanut butter with low salt and sugar. He loves getting that in his Kong toy! I would think it's got the oils and protein that is good for them." "Well, I heard that it's peanuts which are bad for dogs. They don't digest too well and can get caught in the urinal tracts, causing considerable pain. In fact, it happens to humans if too many are eaten as it happened to my dad when he was a truck driver many moons ago. He ate a very large bag of peanuts and later in the even he was doubled up in pain, I think he had to go to hospital." I purchased some peanut shaped/flavor dog biscuits a while ago and I didn't think much of it, but our dog Toby is a lhasa apso, 16 years old and he started having small seizures. He went to the vet and so on. For a while I did not buy them just because I couldn't find the size I wanted (there are small and large). Didn't see any seizures then just the other day I purchased them again and started feeding them to Toby. Again he had a seizure - is it possible that he could be having an allergic reaction to the peanut butter? Editor's Note: It's hard to say for sure but because he's had bad reactions twice, it's probably not worth using anything with peanut butter in it." "I have to give one of my dogs a pill everyday and I give it with peanut butter. They love it, I have asked the vet and he said it is okay. We give them treats of peanuts too which they love, that is only on certain occasions. We do as a treat. I have 3 dogs and they all wait by my cabinet where the peanut butter is everyday after work so they can have their "medicine" as I call it." • I used to own a gourmet dog treat business, and before I started it up I did many months of research. You can find a HUGE list of toxins for dogs, mostly from human foods, in my blog post here: http://my.opera.com/rjfink/blog/toxic-household-items-and-human-foods-to-keep-away-from-your-dog?cid=6047494 As far as I know, this is the most comprehensive list you'll find on the internet. Like I said, it took months to gather the info. Copy/paste, and PLEASE distribute at will. If we can help save the life of just one pet, just imagine! As for the seizures that happened to the poor Lhasa, it also could have come from Xylitol. Re-check the container if you happen to see the treats in the store. I've seen treats containing avocado, xylitol, tons of sodium, etc...so buyer beware. Some companies care more about getting your money than ensuring that your pet is eating something that won't harm (or kill) them.
