Try taking a lunch to work. Little things like that add up fast. Get some lunch meat and bread at the grocery store. In the time you would spend going out to lunch, you can enjoy some simple, no-cost pleasures like taking a walk. The trouble is, being frugal sometimes requires imagination.
Make a budget. I know, I know, everyone says that. But make one. A realistic one. Then divide it into "Needs" and "Wants". Then slice out things you don't need. Start with removing one or two luxuries, then keep going.
After a while you *will* be able to do without them.
And stick to the budget. No matter what. If your friends invite you to join them at the pub, refuse, or buy ONE drink. If you are looking at that chocolate bar, look elsewhere. Instead of having coffee out, have it at home.
Put all the extra money you've saved each week into a special jar, and then count it at the end of the week. It's good for giving yourself feedback.
You get hooked on the good life, I can't imagine cutting down on my habits but I need to since i'm on ei, i'm spending more then i'm getting literally
No - you can but you don't, you have the desire but not the will. Decide what is important to you, understand what needs to be be done and do it, it's as simple as that.
Open a separate savings account, and make it so it is automatically deposited from your check and make it difficult for you to access it.
When money is there, it's almost bound to get spent. Unless you're in an emergency or something like that, you should create some kind of savings account and not be able to touch it (or at least get charged $5 each time you withdraw money from it, that'll help you not touch it). As for 'it seems so easy, just don't spend money' anyone who says that is ignorant I think (I'm not saying you, but other people who tell that to you); it's like telling an alcoholic 'just don't have a drink' or a smoker to 'just don't light the cigarette'. If it were that easy there would be no addictions in the world.
You need to remove desire. Maybe you should think about studying Buddhism
Many people wait until after they receive their paycheck to try to save money by putting some aside. The better way to save money is have it taken out of your paycheck before you ever see it.
You can have a direct deposit savings account plan through your employer. Perhaps your employer provides a 401K or stock purchase plan. Contact your payroll department and find out what savings deductions plans they offer.
You have to make savings one of your priorities ... have money direct deposited into a savings account each time you get paid. That way you don't have it and don't miss it.
I figure out my budget,i take the amount im setting aside too save,i put it away before i buy groceries or anything.i dont spend it unless its an emergency. no an emergency is not a good sale on cashmere at Macys.
When more bills come in than what you make you can't.
Why? Because we live in a capitalist society drenched in mass media which is full of advertising designed by psychologists to separate you from your money.
