  • If you bought it, it's fine. If it is stolen, then it is stolen and you could be tried for possesion of stolen goods.
  • Not if it is sold after being taken down. Many cities will sell old street signs and other signs that have been redesigned. If YOU take it down, it is illegal to possess.

  • If you consider stolen property to be illegal, then yes.
  • People collect all sorts of things these days. If old speed limit/road signs could be bought legally then it is not illegal to possess them. However I would have my doubts if these signs are displayed publicly. These people concerned should not display them because by doing so they convey wrong messages to the authorities.
