You're reading I just started a job with an employer that does random drug testing. I know that poppy seeds can cause a false-positive for opiates. What else do I need to avoid in order to prevent false-positives?
Comments
There's enough evidence to be found that this isn't true. For example, the Mythbusters have proven that poppy seeds can cause a false-positive for opiates. I know that there are a few common OTC medicines that can cause trouble too.

I'm not looking for an ignorant "Don't worry about it" answer. I'm looking for a helpful answer that will tell me what legal products I need to avoid on the basis that they can cause false positives.

So we should list virtually everything we've ingested during the last few days? I'm sure there are many things that can cause a false positive, though poppy seeds is the only one I'm familiar with yet. Still, the statement "If you are not taking illegal drugs, your test will be negative" simply shows that you haven't done much research on these things. People are fired and refused jobs regularly based on false positive drug tests. I'm really disappointed in this answer John, it smacks a knee-jerk answer and prejudice that doesn't become you. You usually seem to put a little more thought into it. I know this question is almost a year old, but I'd really like to see a well researched answer to this. I hope you (or someone) will revisit this one and give us something concrete. I wish I had the time...
