  • Closely related to piranaha are common sun fish. Piranahas will not fare well in a house type aquarium and need considerable room. And a temperature change of about 10 degrees is usually fatal. States are a bit paranoid about piranaha escaping into rivers, lakes and streams. Other than south Florida and Hawaii, it would be short lived as they would die off in water colder than 60 degrees. The aggressive nature of piranaha is over blown. I have been to te Amazon and swum in the waters. Just that you don't want to be last one out when the natives leave. Only because there are thousands they present a danger. And needle fish are far more feared. In fact piranaha are commonly eaten in Sout America.
