That could depend on some state laws. However, I live in Kansas, and divorced my first husband twelve years ago. Just 3 months ago I received papers from him asking for an annulment so he could marry in the Catholic church. Since we still get along I filled out the papers but they were from and for the church itself. State and church forms are different but accomplish the same thing. The difference between a divorce and an annulment are: A divorce states that you and your spouse had a relationship and were bound by the state, but no longer share in this endeavor any longer. An annulment simply means that the marriage never happened and your relationship never was. Thus giving you a clean slate-so to speak. If you are able to check online there are various sites to get information as per state and church forms, requests and in what cases an annulment is granted.
