Should proof of liability auto insurance be required before auto license plates can be renewed?

    Yes. No one is perfect and sometimes we cause accidents. When you do cause an accident, you have a responsibility to pay for damages that you caused. Unfortunately, the consequences can often be very expensive. Few people keep enough money on hand to cover the kind of damage that they can potentially do in a car. As a matter of fact, the reason laws requiring liability insurance were passed is because there were too many people getting left high and dry when they were injured by uninsured motorists. So, now, most, if not all, states require proof of insurance before one can register a car.
