  • Maybe try getting up everynight at a certain time and waking him up and taking him to the washroom until it becomes a habit for him to wake up on his own. Both of my brothers wet the bed until they were 13. When my mother brought them to the Dr. the only thing he said was that they were too lazy to get up at night and go to the washroom. That was almost 30 years ago. No medication or advice just his little lecture.
  • can you perhaps put a night light in his room and a potty?? Show him that its okay to use this at night, buy a plastic cover for the bed(guess you probally have already) Stop his drinks 2 hours before he goes to bed. Good luck
  • My brother wet the bed until he was 12 and than just stopped. Doctors said it was because of stress. I don't know what your situation is but you might ask him. You might not even notice if he's stressed. In our case his Dad was beating him and as soon as my Mom left him he stopped. Of course I am not implying this about you, but even if it's something to do with school even, maybe he is being bullied or something. Maybe it would do him some good to talk to a counsler, it couldn't hurt.
  • I would avoid the drugs- 9 is not that unusual. Kids will generally stop when they hit puberty. If they don't the drugs will not help anyway. They just mask the problem and the side effects are worse than the wet bed. I peed my bed routinely about every night until I was about 13. Then going through puberty I slowed down, but never quit entirely. Still have accidents at 36, but drugs are not going to cure it. It has to do with a hormone called ADH. Some people never get enough of it.
  • Limiting liquids later in the evening is one part. You also need to help him build capacity and control. Take him to the store and buy him his favorite soda or juice. Then, once or twice a day have him drink a whole soda then play a game of "How long can you wait". This will help build capacity. Then, when he does go, have him stop and start the flow several times. This excersise will help make the muscles stronger for more control. Do this for a few weeks and see if helps.
  • Other that stopping hus consuption of liquids a few hours before bedtime, I don't know much else you can do. Good luck!
