They say FORD is "First On Race Day," while I say it's more like "Found On Road Dead" or "Fix Or Repair Daily." What say you?

My brother says "F***ker Only Runs Downhill" and backwards is "Driver Returns On Foot". I say I am currently on my 4th Ford truck that has exceeded 250,000 miles, with nothing more than routine maintenance. To each his own.

As I was growing up, my parents had a number of cars, of various makes. It always seemed to me that the best cars they had were always Fords. Though my parents never seemed to develop any noticable preference, I developed a very strong bias toward Fords, and so to whatever degree I've ever had a choice in buying cars myself, I've always leaned toward Ford products.

My first car was a 1969 Falcon station wagon, a hand-me-down from my parents. It was the first brand-new car they had ever bought (I was six years old when they bought it). When they gave it to me, it was 19 years old, and had, I think, somewhere on the order of 160,000 miles on it. They gave it to me just after they bought their second-ever brand-new car (most of the cars they've owned have been used), a 1988 Ford Tempo. After much shopping around, to decicde what car they wanted, and what dealer to buy it from, they wound up buying the Tempo from the same dealership from which they had bought the Falcon 19 years before. The person who sold them the Falcon still worked there, and remembered selling it to us.

The first picture below was taken on a very, very sad day for me. That's my Falcon, sitting on my parents' driveway, where it had been for several weeks while I attempted to repair it. It had developed a bad rod knock, so I replaced all the connecting rod bearings, and was not thereafter ever able to get it to start again. Shortly after that picture was taken, we towed it to the junkyard. At this point, the Falcon was 28 years old, and had over 220,000 miles on it--enough to reach the Moon. My wife said, "You wouldn't cry that much over me!" I guess there are some things that women just don't get.

My current car (second picture below) is a 1996 Mercury Mystique (for all intents and purposes, the same car as a Ford Contour). The odometer currently reads somewhere around 180,000, but there was a period of about a year when the odometer was not running, during which I estimate, based on fuel usage, that I put about 16,000 miles on it, so it's really around 196,000 miles. This has so far been by far the most reliable car Ive ever had, and the first one that I could say was a better car than the Falcon. It truly is amazing to me that as it approaches 200,000 miles, the engine is still as strong as ever, with good compression, does not leak anything or burn oil.

I say F*cked Over Rebuilt Dodge.

Of all the cars my friends, family, and I have owned and/or driven, the Fords are usually amongst the worst in so many respects. The only one that was relatively problem-free was an '86 mercury Lynx that died at 130K after snapping it's fourth timing chain in three years.
GM fared slightly better; mostly wear-and-tear issues until about 180K. Most died by then
If any of us want a car that'll run strong past 200K, we're limited to Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, VW... nothing American.

Maybe your experience and that of the people you know is different. For me, Ford is the worst of the mediocre. The F-series seems to be the only thing they got right since the Model T!

Having owned two Fords, Fix or Repair Daily/Found on Road Dead are the truth. I have poured so much money into my current car it's awful, and I have AAA on speed dial from all the times I've broken down. I worked at a Ford plant for awhile (not on the line, I was part of security/emt/fire) and after seeing what goes on inside the plant, and people coming in drunk all the time or just shirking their duties out of laziness and not being able to do anything about it because of the unions, it's easy to see why Ford cars are so horrible.

You can hear the plant doors closing, now.
Maybe Toyota will buy them out.

I always knew it as "F@)%ing Old Rebuilt Dodge. No offense, Dodge! I have had several Fords over the years, and my luck with them has been horrible. But I also know that routine maintenance, knowledge of your vehicle, and driving habits can make any vehicle a good or bad one.

In my family's experience, it falls under "Fix or Repair Daily."

We've had much better luck with our Toyotas

I say that I have owned pretty much every kind of American made car or pickup at one time or another and had good and bad, so, I think now days, one is just about as good as the other. The only deciding factor for me now is which body style I like best, and right now that would be my 2003 quad cab Dodge 1500 Hemi.

We are Chevy people at my house. My father's Chevy truck has over 400,000 miles on it and that is without routine maintenance. We have had mostly Chevy's over the years and they have proven to be very good cars and trucks. I have never owned a Ford personally so I can't say for certain that any of the acronyms are correct. I like the Fix Or Repair Daily one the best.

I say f**k you dumbass. I drive an 88 F250. And anyone who uses these dumbass acronyms just can't come up with a real reason that Fords aren't great vehicles.
