If you want to build up a kit, you couldn't do better than a good electronics firm, for instance Maplin's here in the U.K.

If, however, you want to build up a reciever from scratch, you will need both the know-how and the equipment. The know-how shoudn't be a problem as there are a number of websites that deal in that sort of thing:

    http://www.somerset.net/arm/fm_only_one_transistor_radio.html

    http://www.scitoys.com/scitoys/scitoys/radio/radio.html

    being just two of them.

The components, and the printed circuit board, will need to either be purchased online, or from an electrical wholesaler for instance radioshack or Maplin.
