"ray=Men"
-
Rah-men.
-
It's Rah-men
-
It's with a long 'A' sound like ray-men, for two reasons. "Rah-men" is thought to be a corrupt Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese lo mein. The koreans pronounce it "lay-myun" which sounds more like the correct pronunciation. Ray-men sounds more like lo mein than rah-men, so while both incorrect, ray-men is closer. Secondly, even if you figure it's now an American word and it's commonly pronounced differently here, then you need to follow the rules of English. It would need two M's to be correctly pronounced rah-men. http://www.searchanddecide.com

I've always pronounced it rah-men. They have rah-men restaurants. Ramen (ラーメン or 拉麺, rÄmen?, is a Japanese dish of noodles served in broth that originated in China. It tends to be served in a meat-based broth, and uses toppings such as sliced pork (ãƒãƒ£ãƒ¼ã‚·ãƒ¥ãƒ¼, chÄshÅ«?), dried seaweed (æµ·è‹”, nori?), kamaboko, green onions, and even corn. Almost every locality or prefecture in Japan has its own variation of ramen, from the tonkotsu ramen of KyÅ«shÅ« to the miso ramen of HokkaidÅ. Here is the pronunciation version from www.dictionary.com: [rah-muhn] If you click on the audio icon at this link: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ramen a robot voice pronounces it "rah-men."

I say Rah-men. If it were ray men it would have a Y in it somewhere lol. It's like Mumm-Ra It's not pronounced Mumm Ray.. hehehe To hear how it is pronounced click the small speaker icon. This is a web dictionary. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ramen (From Webster Dictionary).

The correct English pronunciation is RAH-men. If you were to write it out in Hiragana (one of the alphabets used in Japanese), you would get "らã‚ã‚“", pronounced "Rahmein". However, the "mein" was changed to "men" in translation. The "rah", however, was left intact. And another piece of trivia- Ramen is Chinese! However, I did use Japanese characters, as that would not affect the pronunciation at all, and I don't know any Chinese ;)
