I'm thinking of opening a business. Do you think a vegan supermarket which is environmentally focused and carries healthy food products could survive/thrive in today's tough retail market?

I don't know if it would in general, but I know that there are some where I live, and they seem to be doing quite well. Whatever you decide to do, good luck, and a vegan store sounds like a good idea. :)

I think that your idea is wonderful, and the business is definitely capable of surviving. Even in a rough market, people will prioritize and budget to afford what is important to them. Your success, in my opinion, will largely depend on your location, both regionallyand locally.

It depends where you go. I think a pretty urban environment would be the best place for that, because you can get people who might want deli-style products too.

A largely vegetarian/organic supermarket opened up near me, in a working/middle class neighborhood made up of Poles and Hispanics (near enough to a wealthier German/Irish neighborhood to draw some business). It's busy 24/7, on a relatively dead street.

I get the impression some people are yearning for fresh fruit and vegetables, yet can't find them.

I've heard that stores like Whole Foods are still doing quite well (not that they're vegan, but they are more upper end).

Vegans are more willing to spend/sacrifice more in order tosustain their diet.

it could in the right location.

where I live it would work because it is a city of rich people and being health conscience and GREEN is popular

You would need a very good location demographically. Even with that, it would probably be tough the first few years. If you do it, make sure you have reserve dollars!

I sure would go to one!
