Melanoma begins in pigment cells called melanocytes,which produce melanin. As a result, a melanoma can be found wherever malenocytes are. Those cells can be found mainly in the skin(cutaneous melanoma), but also in the eye(uveal melanoma), the digestive track, the brain and the meninges or even the lymph nodes.
