You go to your courthouse in your state and file an application and pay a fee, it's not too high, and they will do it. If it just involves you, it's cheaper than if it involves other people like for minors and such.
The law may vary from state to state but my understanding is that you can legally change your name to anything you want (not anything vulgar) as long as it is not for the purpose of anything illegal (like evading someone, or pretending you died, or evading the law). I have no legal background, it just seems to me that I have read of those who have done that! :)
