The nicotine is already out or about to be if you haven't had a smoke in the last day or so. That's why you're having withdrawal. It's low, your body is used to it and can't find it. Water won't do anything to speed this up, just give your hands something to do.

I was able to stop cold turkey. I havent smoked in years and have no want or need to go back. But, everyones different. I would suggest staying away from places that allow you to smoke if you can, when you smell it your gonna crave it. Find other things to do with your time when you'd normally be smoking. Start a journal,(might sound gay but ya know...I find it to help with many things)go for walks, start running ( when you feel more in shape you wont wanna ruin it by lighting up) or do things to preoccupy your mouth. Chew gum, eat more ( may gain a few pounds but Id rather take that chance then take the chance of getting some form of cancer, wouldnt you?) chew on straws(this is what my Dad did when he quit 15 years ago...and he still chews on straws!!) If all else fails and you still wanna light up, I seriously suggest looking up videos or pictures of smokers lungs on the internet and think of them when you are tempted. That always kept me away thinking about what my insides must look like and what my lungs are going through when I inhale a mouthful of tar.
