  • Cut out the caffein. If you take too much ibuprophen it can make your heart race too. Mostly it sounds like you're having panic attacks. If you take medicine it can cause this too. You may need to practice self-hypnosis. It works like this: Turn off the lights and close your eyes, first you tell your toes to relax, then your feet,your legs, your hands, your arms, your body. then your head. Do this slowly while relaxing each part and breathing in deeply through your mouth and out through your nose. I set it to an old nursery rhyme. One potato, two potato three potato, four, five potato, six potato, seven potato, more. By the time I have run through it twice, I'm relaxed enough to sleep. You can do this anytime you are feeling anxious, not just when you're ready for bed. Don't do it while driving, but the slow deep breaths will work then.
