  • Snakes don't have bones, but it should heal itself if the rat doesn't eat it's way out and eat the snake. Can that happen?
  • Emergency vet! The snake doesn't have a good chance, especially if it doesn't get to the vet ASAP. My snake was bitten by a rat, not quite as bady though, was taken to the vet, and treated. His skin healed, but he didn't eat for 6+ months. I had to give him supplements daily, so he wouldn't starve to death.
  • keep the rat away from it for now!
  • My bad, I thought they didn't. I was asking if it is possible for something like a rat to eat through a snake?
  • Snakes heal slowly, and are prone to infections. You can use a topical antibiotic (eg. neosporin), but this animal needs to be taken to a vet immediately. Whenever feeding rats / mice to snakes, you should always monitor the cage until the snake has engulfed enough of the rodent to kill the rodent. Rats and mice WILL chew on a snake sometimes, instead of things going the other way around! Making sure your snake is REAL hungry prior to introducing the rodent to the cage helps ensure that the snake eats the rodent before the rodent eats the snake.
  • This is a rat eat snake kind of world... ~sigh~
  • she needs to take it to the vet now and get rid of that rat
