Should employers pay us for commuting to and from work?

If they did I would get a job 4 hours away, show up and then leave. and get paid for a full 8 hours.

Yes, I have to work to pay bills, like everyone else, and I don't see why I should pay to get there and back, I don't do it for fun :-)

That depends.. Did you apply for, and accept, that position knowing full well that you would have to commute everyday? That sounds like a choice you made. The employer didn't make you drive that far to find a job, why should they pay you to drive (or ride the bus, train, etc) to and from work? Or - did you get hired nearby your house, and then get transferred to an office further away? This situation might make me want the employer to pay for commute time - but not if you agreed to possible relocation when you were hired. If you can't (or don't want to) commute - then you either need to find a new job, or find a new home.

Should your employer buy your lunch and wipe your butt after taking a poop as well? Blow your nose? Check your kid's homework? The commute is your time. Suck it up.

No, as it is our choice how far we live from work. It's not fair for them to pay if I live 60 miles away and drive a huge SUV.
