Question

Help answer this question below.

How can I fix my reputation? Is there any way that I can change the way others perceive me? I mean I've said and done some really stupid things and probably the majority of people view me that way. I really wish I could go back and undo them but I can't.

It's never too late to be someone new. People aren't going to trust that you've changed overnight, but if you stick to your guns and keep doing the right thing, people will start to see who you really are. If people can't forgive, they're not worth proving yourself to.

No you can't go back and change things but you can rebuild your reputation - you didn't earn a bad reputation overnight and you won't fix it quickly either but it can be done.

You need to make amends with yourself before you try to change the perception of others - be sure you want to change because a half hearted effort is worse than no effort at all - you would fall at the first hurdle and then everyone would think they were right about you all along.

If appropriate you should apologise to people you have hurt - if they won't give you the time of day write to them, tell them why you behaved as you did and explain why you think you were wrong; ask for their forgiveness.

People will either give you a second chance or deny it to you but don't expect them to make it easy for you - you have to prove you mean to do better in the future.

    Good luck

A personal reputation is much more difficult to repair than a business reputation. We all say stupid things which usually people forget. But one act of indiscretion can last a lifetime. For instance cheating on a spouse in that spouse posted it all over the Internet. Remember the issue with Kobe Bryant and the rape? it took a long time (years) for the public to perceive Kobe as a good guy again. But with solid reputation management not only was he able to achieve his good name most folks have completely forgotten about that incident. Business reputations are much easier to fix because there is not individual person... for instance Wal-Mart. They have had tons of complaints by how they treat their employees but through business reputation management they are still viewed as a great company and favored by consumers. For personal reputation management I agree with the previous poster for business reputation management I would suggest reputationmanagementfix.com or 1stbay.com

There is no delete button or undo button available in Life and therefore same is applicable to internet life. But as People do more Good work and overcome their past with bad impressions with recent Good impressions you can do the same thing. Online you can try posting new and positive information about yourself which will pickup by Google in few time since search engines like Google like new content posted on good properties and therefore you can either start a blog on wordpress, myspace and register your social profile on available social networks. I always recomend RRWDG.com since they resolved my PR disaster last year and saved my reputation and customers base from a misleading information about my company.

Offline it may a lot easier to fix your reputation than online. Mending relationships often comes with personal pain and owning up to the errors we made in the past and apologizing. Mending your reputation online is a totally different animal and can be much harder to fix as a bad reputation on the Internet can become part of what seems like your "permanent record". To have search engines change the way you are seen online when someone "Googles" you requires time and yes sometimes money. As the author of Do It Yourself Online Reputation Management: A Step-By-Step Guide To Building Or Repairing Your Online Reputation http://amzn.to/cpp044 - I lay out they simplest way to retake your online reputation requiring no Internet experience. But if that seems too daunting you can always pay to have your online reputation changed with reputable services like reputationdefender.com and reputationhawk.com
