well, define "scanning." Using Ad-aware or a similar legit program, yes, if you remove the programs it finds. Defragmenting? Oyes. yes yes yes. Using some random thingy on some random website claiming to be scanning your computer for viruses so then you can use their FREE !! ! program to remove it? no.

If you're talking about scanning for viruses, then yes, it helps tremendously. If you don't scan your computer for viruses, how are you going to know if there are any there and get rid of them before it's too late?

I use Avira Antivirus. It helps me to detect many viruses.
