  • Come What May by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman How Deep is your Love by Bee Gees
  • Faces In The Hall- Gym Class Heroes. And not too be corny or predictable, but Amazing Grace makes me feel sad, as well.
  • To answer my own question: My Immortal by Evanescence, and also Hello by Evanescence. I am a bit of an evanescence fan when I'm sad
  • I left one out by The Skyliners........ Since I Don't Have You, from 1958
  • Any song sung by somebody who can't sing. That is VERY sad...
  • The song "Wind beneath my wings" makes me cry. I think it's supposed to be a happy song (?) but it makes ME sad because they played it in my aunt's hospital room when she was dying. :o/ Ugh. Also, basically any slow song about breaking up, or getting your heart broken make me sad!
  • "Girlfriend in a comma" - Smiths or "Ed" - Ice T
  • "wish you were here" by pink floyd, my uncles best friend played that on acoustic guitar at his funeral. and also "the river","point blank" and "the angel" by bruce springsteen
  • How do you get that lonely, by Blaine Larson a country singer. (it's about suicide)
  • I'm with satine, the Johnny Cash cover of "Hurt". I think its even sadder because he died so soon after recording it. hmm thanks for the "not useful" rating- sorry my answer to the question wasn't useful to you!!!
  • Angel Flying To Close To The Ground. By Willie Nelson reminds me of when my baby was waiting for the heart that never came.
  • Everybody Hurts by REM
  • I've never heard the Cash cover of hurt, so probably "A Little At A Time" by Johny Cash.
  • Slipped Away by Avril Lavigne I cry every time I hear it
  • There are a lot of sad songs.. but check out "Hate Me" by Blue October... it tells of a child who longs for the love of his mother, but feels that the choices he has made in his life has only caused her pain and therefore he stays away from her to try and protect her from his self destruction, only to stay away from her too long. In the video, she dies and all he is left with is a message of her voice on his answering machine. So many of our young people feel that they are not worthy of love. We need to let them know they are loved.. UNCONDITIONALLY and not make them feel condemned.
  • "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones, very sad song.
  • Bob Dylans Dream Lyrics: While riding on a train goin' west, I fell asleep for to take my rest. I dreamed a dream that made me sad, Concerning myself and the first few friends I had. With half-damp eyes I stared to the room Where my friends and I spent many an afternoon, Where we together weathered many a storm, Laughin' and singin' till the early hours of the morn. By the old wooden stove where our hats was hung, Our words were told, our songs were sung, Where we longed for nothin' and were quite satisfied Talkin' and a-jokin' about the world outside. With haunted hearts through the heat and cold, We never thought we could ever get old. We thought we could sit forever in fun But our chances really was a million to one. As easy it was to tell black from white, It was all that easy to tell wrong from right. And our choices were few and the thought never hit That the one road we traveled would ever shatter and split. How many a year has passed and gone, And many a gamble has been lost and won, And many a road taken by many a friend, And each one I've never seen again. I wish, I wish, I wish in vain, That we could sit simply in that room again. Ten thousand dollars at the drop of a hat, I'd give it all gladly if our lives could be like that. • the boy who blocked his own shot by brand new.... If it makes you less sad, I will die by your hand. I hope you find out what you want. I already know what I am. And if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again. And you can tell me how vile I already know that I am. I'll grow old and start acting my age. I'll be a brand new day in a life that you hate. A crown of gold. A heart that's harder than stone. And it hurts a whole lot, but it's missed when it's gone. Call me a safe bet. I'm betting I'm not. I'm glad that you can forgive. I'm only hoping as time goes, you can forget. If it makes you less sad, I'll move out of the state. You can keep to yourself. I'll keep out of your way. And if it makes you less sad, I'll take your pictures all down. Every picture you paint, I will paint myself out. It's cold as a tomb, and it's dark in your room, when I sneak to your bed to pour salt in your wounds. So call it quits or get a grip. Say you wanted a solution. You just wanted to be missed. Call me a safe bet. I'm betting I'm not. I'm glad that you can forgive. I'm only hoping as time goes, you can forget... You are calm and reposed. Let your beauty unfold. Pale white, like the skin stretched over your bones. Spring keeps you ever close. You are second hand smoke. You are so fragile and thin. Standing trial for your sins. Holding onto yourself the best you can. You are the smell before rain. You are the blood in my veins. Call me a safe bet. I'm betting I'm not. I'm glad that you can forgive. I'm only hoping as time goes, you can forget.
  • I don't want to miss a thing-Aerosmith...when my dad died I listened to that song a lot. Very sad song.
  • I have 2, as sung by Bonnie Raitt, my all time favorite singer. Both from 1972, they are "Love has no pride" and "Nothing seems to matter," with lyrics noted below: "Love Has No Pride" I've had bad dreams too many times, to think that they don't mean much any more. Fine times have gone and left my sad home, friends who once cared just walk out my door. Love has no pride when I call out your name. Love has no pride when there's no one left to blame. I'd give anything to see you again. I've been alone too many nights to think that you could come back again. But I've heard you talk: "She's crazy to stay." But this love hurts me so, I don't care what you say. Love has no pride when I call out your name. Love has no pride when there's no one left to blame. I'd give anything to see you again. If I could buy your love, I'd truly try my friend. And if I could pray, my prayer would never end. But if you want me to beg, I'll fall down on my knees; asking for you to come back... I'd be pleading for you to come back... beggin for you to come back to me. Love has no pride when I call out your name. Love has no pride when there's no one left to blame. I'd give anything to see you again. "Nothing Seems To Matter" Seems like such a long time since I held you my arms, And felt you close and warm beside me, Another night is getting late and I'm alone with just the ache And the memory of you beside me. Darling, I've never been so blue, I've tried to see it through, There's nothing I can do. I won't make it on my own, So won't you please hurry home, 'cause nothing seems to matter without you. Last time I saw you, There was nothing we could say, We knew it was a time for a change, A time to think you said that night, And I lied and said all right, I left you in the morning, I watched you in the window, And Mexico will never be the same. It was time to be apart, But somehow it seems this heart of mine, Will never find a way to live without you. And now I'm out here on the road And I'm feeling bought and sold, And tonight I just can't but think about you. Darling, I've never been so blue, I've tried to see it through, There's nothing I can do, I won't make it on my own So darling won't you hurry home, Because nothing seems to matter without you. No, nothing seems to matter without you.
  • November Rain by Guns and Roses Colourblind by the Counting Crows
  • I 've just saw a movie called :Gloomy Sunday. In that there is a story claiming mass suicides in Hungary and in other countries upon hearing the tune and/or the lyrics of the song in the movie. The song was written by a Hungarian named Seress, and he himself also comitted suicide when he was 59 years old. I have briefly followed this up using Google and low and behold there came a few very interesting write-up on this particular song. The song was apparently banished in many countries including the USA.

  • Most all Christmas songs, but one I can never listen to without crying is "Love without end" by George Strait.
  • There's a few I can think of, but probably "Famous Blue Raincoat" by Leonard Cohen. Its one of the very few love songs I've heard where I've actually believed that the singer really meant every word- I think its because of all the tiny details (it reminds me a little of the Grahame Green book "The End of the Affair" too): "Its four in the morning, the end of december Im writing you now just to see if youre better New york is cold, but I like where Im living Theres music on Clinton Street all through the evening. I hear that youre building your little house deep in the desert Youre living for nothing now, I hope youre keeping some kind of record. Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear Did you ever go clear? The last time we saw you you looked so much older Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder Youd been to the station to meet every train And you came home without Lily Marlene And you treated my woman to a flake of your life And when she came back she was nobodys wife. Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth One more thin gypsy thief Well I see Jane's awake -- She sends her regards. And what can I tell you my brother, my killer What can I possibly say? I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you Im glad you stood in my way. If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me Your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free. Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes I thought it was there for good so I never tried. And Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear sincerely, L. Cohen"

  • 1916, by Motorhead. 16 years old when I went to war, To fight for a land fit for heroes, God on my side, and a gun in my hand, Chasing my days down to zero, And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died, And I never did get any older, But I knew at the time that a year in the line, Is a long enough life for a soldier, We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names, And we added two years to our ages, Eager for life and ahead of the game, Ready for history's pages, And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood, Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder, A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun, And that's what you are when you're soldiers, I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees, Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother, And I fell by his side, and that's how we died, Clinging like kids to each other, And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood, And I wept as his body grew colder, And I called for my mother and she never came, Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame, The day not half over and ten thousand slain, And now there's nobody remembers our names, And that's how it is for a soldier.

Could be wrong. Fantastic song either way.
  • I Wish by R.Kelly
  • Someone already said "Tears in Heaven" - that's not even a type of music that I like but the story behind it makes me choke up every time. SO SAD. Another one is "Nothing Compares 2 U" sung by Sinead O'Connor. I hadn't heard this song in years, but when I listened to it recently I found it devestating. It just perfectly expresses the desolate feeling of a newly ended relationship.

  • "What are you doing with the rest of your life?" sung by Dusty Springfield. What are you doing the rest of your life? North and south and east and west of your life? I have only one request of your life That you spend it all with me. All the seasons and the times of your days. All the nickels and the dimes of your days. Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days. All begin and end with me. I want to see your face, In every kind of light, In fields of gold and Forests of the night; And when you stand before The candles on a cake. Oh let me be the one to hear The silent wish you make. Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes In the world of love you keep in your eyes, Ill awaken whats asleep in your eyes, It may take a kiss or two.. Through all of my life.. Summer, winter, spring and fall of my life, All I ever will recall of my life Is all of my life with you.
  • I've found a sadder, more deppressing song than anything the good mister Cash ever put out. It's called Gorilla, by a group I've never realy heard of called Sandman, just to give you a general idea, the opening verse goes somthing like this... "As I and my lover, lay dreaming in black, I spied a pale torso, by the side of the track. The train had slowed down for the people to see, and I started to laugh uncontrollably. It was not this man's death, that was making me laugh, it was wondering were was his other half... And it goes downhill from there.

  • Pulp - Happy Endings: Well, imagine its a film & you're the star & pretty soon we're coming To the part where you realise that you should give your heart, oh give Your heart to me. Now the orchestra begins to make a sound that goes Round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & Round again & we kiss to violins. Well some sad people might believe In that, I guess, but we know better dont we? We know all about the Mess. The aftermath of our affair is lying all around and I can't clear it Away. No. and do you think that it's so easy to find somebody who is Just your kind? Well it might take you a little time, but I'm going to have To try. Oh yeah I'm gonna try. And I know no-one can ever know which Way to head but don't you remember - you once said that you liked Happy endings? And no-one can ever know if its going to work but if You try then you might get your happy ending. ..I think maybe, you might get your ending, that thing that you deserve .. and no-one can ever know which way to head But don't you remember - you once said that you liked happy endings.

I was here, you were there Guess we never could agree While the sun shines on you I need some love to rain on me Still I sit all alone, wishing all my feeling was gone Gotta get over you, nothing for me to do But have one last cry Repeat Chorus I know I gotta be strong Cause round me life goes on and on and on And on..... I'm gonna dry my eyes Right after I had my One last cry Repeat Chorus I guess I'm down I guess I'm down I guess I'm down... To my last cry...

  • Everytime I am sad or something sad happened I am listening to Meat Loafs "Objects in the rear view mirror may appeare closer than they are". It's just so sad and still so beautiful, I have to cry while listening to it always. Just the imaginaging of all that things happening to me - - - and all my own problems drift away. Just so beautiful.

  • Baby Mine from the Dumbo movie.
  • Spangle by Jimmy Eat World This is a cover though. The original band was The Wedding Present, but I enjoy the modern version better. It's a break up song. Also Jon Brion's "Here We Go". I think it's on the Punch Drunk Love soundtrack. A sad song about trying to find someone.

I always thought we'd be together You said we've never gone this way before I must not let you die Your memory survives Hope that tonight things are fine As I lay awake The light cuts the southern sky And that glass stings my lungs These scars they will always remind me of you and how you're always with me Won't you say and be with me tonight? • Time After Time-Cyndi Lauper
  • Toy Soldiers By Eminem,
  • Besides a few of the classics that have already been mentioned (for instance, "Tears In Heaven," most definitely)... "How To Save A Life" - The Fray. I've heard that this song was written about a drug-addicted teen one of the band members mentored. And certainly, certainly moreso "Twilight" - Elliott Smith always gets me. Not only is his voice and delivery sadly perfect for any depressing song, the CD with this one was released after Smith's death.
  • The song "Keep Holding U" by "SunMin thanX Kubota". This is the theme song for "Nihon Chinbotsu" or "Japan Sinks". I hope that one of these days, we'll get to see the movie here in the US!
