    STAA stands for Surface Transportation Assistance Act The Surface Transportation Assistance Act allows semi trucks to operate on routes that are part of the National Network (STAA approved truck route). The act designates the minimum truck sizes that all states MUST allow on the National Network (which includes the Interstate System and several other highways), and encourages states to allow truck access on all major highways.
