  • What do you mean by move over law? Changing lanes to keep from being close to the pulled over car? or to pull over when a policeman has his lights on you, even though he is pulling over the car in front of you? To pull over even when the police have a car pulled over and he signals for you to pull over also?
  • Currently ten states lack any form of a move over law. In alphabetical order they are California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey and Rhode Island. Every other state has some form of "move over or slow down substantially" law. Even if you are in one of the ten that don't, you should still slow down or move over, to try to avoid hitting anyone who may be on the highway.
  • The other answer left out Tennessee and Kentucky. i believe this law originated in tennesse as a result of an officer that was run over by a tractor-trailer, while the officer was assisting a stranded motorist, with a flat tire. The officer was killed.
