The US FOunding Fathers did pretty good of setting up a system that could run a good honest government. It's too bad no one really follows their beliefs anymore...

So, what would you suggest as an alternative? I don't see that we have much choice but let mankind run governments. As, Nitanitro pointed out, that it is impossible to please everyone. Additionally, we are not perfect. Because of this no for of government is ever going to be perfect nor is it going to please everyone. But what alternative do we have. There is no one else around but humans to form and run governments. That is, there is no one else unless you can convince God to come down and personally rule. Only then would it be possible to have a perfect government. However, I still wouldn't put it past some people to complain about it. ;-)

"scubabob: I don't recall voting for any god."

See what I mean about people complaining? The mere suggestion that that the only way to get a perfect government would be to have God personally run it gets some people's hackles up.

Scuba, you may not believe in God. If that is the case, then why does the notion of God personally running things upset you. Note that I was not suggesting that people run the government in the name of God. That would not be a perfect government by definition because it would still be run by us imperfect humans. No matter how good their intentions they could not be perfect and history has shown us that theocratic governments actually have the tendency to be among the most oppressive. So, I definitely was not suggesting that.

I was suggesting that we mere mortal try to convince God, Himself come down and take over the government. If you look at this, then you should see how absurd that notion is. Us imperfect mortal trying to convince an omniscient being to do something that in His infinite wisdom He has chosen not to do so far.

So, once again, if you don't believe there is a God, then why should you fear Him the suggestion that He would show up and take over the government? If you are right, then it can't happen because there is no God. So, this is an event that would never happen.

"scubabob: This area is for comments. I made one. You seem to be the one that's bent out of shape about it."

Based on what I saw in the ratings for this answer in my activity log, you were the one who rated it down. Based on your comment, that appeared to be because you didn't like the reference to God.

A government will never be 100% successful because it's impossible to please everyone. A democracy is the closest thing because it aims to please the majority, but there will always be individuals or a group that will complain about it.

This sounds like the type of question that Religious Fundamentalists ask before proposing to set up a Theocracy.

Since the end of the second World War, the Governments of Western Europe have done a reasonably good job and provided an unprecedented 60 years of peace and prosperity.

The truth is that noone else can run society for man but man itself. Despite troubling times throughout history one should look at Great Britain, a superb government modified in the 1800s and has held strong ever since behind a strong parliament and weak monarchy with a queen as a figurehead. It is possible to develop a strong gov't, one should base it after successful ones in history.

a perfect one? No....but Americans had as close to perfect and free as the world will ever get for quite a long time....the government works for themselves now, not the Americans....
