  • Would God ever ask anyone to kill their own son? I doubt it. It would contradict the 10 Commandments. God doesn't need a hitman, if someone needs to go, then He would do so on his own accord.
  • I am sorry to say that men (I mean humans) for as long as we have known, have invoked God's name to kill innocent civilians, now all of this if you believe in that kind of God. So I'm with the person that finds it ridiculous God would ask someone to kill their own son however I don't invoke the 10 commandments cause I don't believe in the bible cause it was written by men and translated by men. Get it.... anyhow beliefs are so discussable and fragile issues.......
  • Some gods of ancient Palestine and Carthage, such as Moloch, demanded the life of a firstborn son in exchange for good weather and fertility of the soil, the herds, the flocks, and their wives. (Stupid and evil way to improve fertility, but that's why they died out.) The God of Abraham asked Abraham to do the same thing--but stopped him from doing it at the last second, because God doesn't need or want human sacrifice. Interesting historical note: It seems that Mount Moriah, where Abraham almost sacrificed Isaac, was later renamed Calvary, where God's Son was sacrificed.
  • No, God could kiss my back side as far as I am concerned. I would rather go to hell then kill my son (or daughter, or cat for that matter). He may feel perfectly fine letting Jesus die for our sins (and ours? don't people mean theres? It was bloody 1952 years before I could commit a sin!) but that doesn't mean I would be ok sacraficing my son, thanks very much!
  • i would definately becuase he is the almighty and you can trust him and his decisions are perfect
  • accidental duplicate You know what? I have a herniated disc in my neck, was in and out of the hospital, and on bedrest when the accidental duplicate happened. I couldn't control my right arm very well. (See disc herniation between C6 and C7, it affects the right arm.) So, I accidentally clicked too many times sometimes. Rating my accident down is just cheesy.
  • If Deity asked me to kill any of my children, I would promptly see a psychiatrist, as I'm obviously in need of medical attention. This seems to be a reference to the Biblical story when Yahweh asks Abraham to sacrifice his son. A request to kill someone - especially my child - is something I consider highly unethical and evil. This is just one of the many reasons I'm not Christian or any other type of Yahweh worshipper.
  • First of all I dont think He would ask, I think it would be more like an order. And if I really thought that it was God telling me, I probably would. But, then I think that He would stop it before it actually happened because He was just testing Abraham's faith. I might have to go see a shrink first just to make sure I wasnt hearing things. Actually, I dont think God works like that anymore, but who knows for sure?
  • I would (quite honestly) try every single way I could to get out of it. I would have to have some very good reasons for doing so, and I know He would provide them since He knows that's what it would take. I'm not even going steady with anyone yet, and I'm already tearing up. This was a very hard question, and very profound. Thank you.
  • I would tell him, that I am not willing to repeat his own failures...
  • No. God may be sadistic enough to send his own son to his death, but no child of mine is going to suffer in his name.
  • I would certainly do this because it's God but I would make sure there is a reason.
  • I would strongly hope for God to provide a very good reason, and to guarantee protection from the law for this particular action. I don't expect God to ask me to kill whatever son I'll have; if something indicates that God is asking me to do this, I'll shrug it off and assume that it was just Satan trying to deceive me. (Please, God, protect me from any and all deceptions. Thank you.)
  • What a stupid question. God would never ask such a stupid thing.
  • No, I'd give god a mouthful that would make Satan sit up and take notes!
  • This was an extremely hard test. God wanted to prove that Abraham trusted him completely. Abraham probably expected that God would bring Isaac back from death. Hebrews 11:17-19 seems to mean this. But Abraham did not guess what God actually intended to do. If we serve God, we need to trust him completely. We expect that he will help us. But we may not guess what he actually intends to do. He may do something more wonderful than the thing that we expected. Abraham stretched out his hand and he took the knife. He was ready to kill his son. v11 But the *Lord’s *angel called from heaven. He said to him, ‘Abraham, Abraham!’ And Abraham answered, ‘I am here.’ v12 The *angel said, ‘Do not kill the boy and do not hurt him. Now I know that you respect God. You were ready to give to me your son, your only son.’ It's a test of faith, but to be all honest, I don't know what if I would have enough.
  • i dont have a son lol , nah i wouldnt kill my own flesh and blood .
  • Right off the bat, just tell him to f*** off. If god does exist, he's a passive aggressive, manipulative jerk, and I'm sick and tired of people putting up with his ridiculous expectations. I would'nt kill anyone for god, if he wants them dead so bad, he can get up off his divine ass and do it himself.
  • This question assumes that all of the Bible is correct and people didnt do drugs or drink back then. My point being mainly on the fact of would God ask such a thing?..... The Bible was written by man whichever way you look at it and has been re translated by man. You assume that all parts of the bible are straight from God and that he talked to people back them but seems to no longer talk to people now. Well on occasions he will now but we just call those people crazy not actually realizing the fact that many people back in the day dig do drugs of sorts and did drink a lot. So whos to say God would have ever told man a single thing........we dont know we just believe, and people die for beliefs everyday because they are diffrent but their own religion explains how killing is wrong. Everyones right and wrong are different to some extent. This question is stupid and has to many assumptions
  • Anything
  • nope never
  • The voices, they're talking to me. They're telling me things. Make them stop. Oh please make them stop!
  • In this modern world, god doesn't talk to us - we're schizophrenic and treated with many Rx Medications.
  • He does speak, but He is unlikely to ask this. The specific situation of Abraham was a test case. The pagan religions around DID demand the sacrifice of firstborn sons. What God wanted to make ABraham think about was how seriously he took his God. After all he had been through to become a father, did Abraham love God or his son more? ANd did he love God more than the pagans loved theirs? Abraham passed the test. He was not required to kill his son. It was God who had to sacrifice HIS.
  • Hypothetically speaking... If god did ask me to do that my first response would be to ask him "Why?" - and it would have to be some AMAZING kinda answer. If all he said was "to prove how devoted you are to me" I'd be saying "Well that's pretty f'ing insecure for an eternal, omnipotent, all-knowing Being isn't it???"
  • I would never kill anyone for a fictional being, that's plain insane. id kill god before another human being.
  • People do it every day when they encourage their children to enlist and give their life to their country. I don't see the difference.
  • abraham did, now think how inhumans and insane the bible is, it is saying put your religion first before your children, people who belive in god, guess what GOD is a Child Killer, so keep you children away from god, oh yes god says THO SHALL NOT KILL peace to all
  • If I was devoted to any God that would ask me to perform such a despicable act, I would have to seriously question my mental capabilities.
  • No. Any deity that would request such a thing is not worthy of veneration or worship.
  • How a parent would kill her own children?. And moreover God is not Osama to kill others.
  • I dont have a son but if i did....no. Thats one fucked up God.
  • I would, only if God made a promise that i would see him again in heaven. The story of Adam and eve shows us not to disobey God. On top of that, look to the story of Abraham, God is mercyfull, he may just need to know that you would do it. Also, disobaying God would lead to much, much more trouble, and land you a place in hell.
  • Context. Context. Context. Abraham lived hundreds of years before the Ten Commandments were given to Moses and the Jewish people. Abraham lived in a society where human sacrifice and child sacrifice was the normal thing to do. God was just beginning to reveal himself to mankind and Abraham did not have the Bible or much of anything else to go on. Abraham knew that his son was a gift from God. If God demanded that Abraham kill the son, then Abraham, although it probably broke his heart, would do it. Under the same circumstances (context) would we be able to follow God's will? Under the much easier circumstances that we live in today, can we follow God's will as Jesus revealed it to us? With the Ten Commandments, the Prophets, and especially Jesus Christ as part of our current circumstances (context), God would not put us to this test. But we do have similar issues to tackle, like abortion where we kill our children who are miraculous gifts from God just like Isaac was to Abraham. In abortion we sacrifice our children to the gods of lust, convenience, economy, and selfishness. With love in Christ.
  • People may say that God's will is supreme, but he can't ask someone that without contradicting his own commandments. Besides, I am no one to kill a human being and I completely dissapprove murder.
  • If He did, I would assume it was because there was a question in my heart as to who I loved more. That was what was going on with Abraham, and why God didn't need him to go through with it. The answer was in the attempt. For me, it would not be my child, but the bureaucrats at the DPSS. Would I kill them for Him? In a heartbeat!
  • No, but I would probably have myself committed into a mental institution.. If you're hearing voices telling you to kill your loved ones, religious superstitions aside, there's something seriously wrong.
  • No. I would give the child to a family member whilst I go to the hospital.
  • No, if I heard God talking to me, I would try to wake up. If it didn't work I'd go to a psychiatrist.
  • He wouldn't, but no I would never do that. Not that I have a son in the first place.
  • NO, I RATHER GO TO HELL.
  • Reading all of these answers, from a lot of people i see that post and are christians, Who are you to question God in what he wants you too do?? The bible says to obey god? If he tells you to kill your son you should do it or you are not a chrisitian. Which leads me to ask, does anyone else see that maybe when the bible was wrote it was a different time and wrote by very inferior people?!??!?!
  • Can we throw in some others as well? I have a short list ...since he's paying the bill and all
  • I would say fine ill do it if you kill both of your sons lucifer and jesus, otherwise see you in hell you sadist! first you have to prove there is a God, any takers? didnt think so.
  • God would not ask us to do that though, because when He asked Abraham to kill Isaac, it was a TEST-to see if he loved God enough, and believed in His covenant with him enough to believe that He could raise Isaac from the dead if Abraham killed him. God told Abraham that he would be the father of MANY nations, through his son Isaac. So when God asked Abraham to kill him, he knew it was simply a test of his faith. It was also a foreshadow of Jesus' death....God sent HIS only Son to die for our sins. His sacrifice was perfect....so there is no way that He would ask anyone to kill their own son. On the other hand, Satan would ask us to do that, making us think it was actually God asking it.
  • This is difficult for me to answer, but if I ever do have a son, then no, i would never kill him just because God told me to. My son would be the son of God, and He will be unique in all possible ways, so I wouldn't destroy that for anything.
  • THEY SAY THE BIBLE WAS MADE 300 YEARS AFTER JESUS. I BELIEVE ITS A BUNCH OF OVER EXAGGERATE SHIT, COME ON BACK IN THE DAYS THEY USE TO SAY STUFF TO FRIGHTEN PEOPLE IN ORDER TO GET THEM TO DO WHAT THEY WANTED. NOW ANOTHER QUESTION, HOW CAN A MOTHER JUST STAND AND WATCH HER SON BEING KILLED? I WOULD OF DIED WITH HIM DEFENDING HIM.
  • As an atheist it would be a shock to my system if a god popped up and told me to murder somebody, but I suppose that I would be in the same delusional state as all religious people who believe that their imaginary sky-daddy is real, and I would do what god (my delusion) asked me to. Other people might think I was mad, even religious ones; but I would be acting as the god's obedient servant. Who is to say that my converse with the god was a delusion? People talk to their own gods every day and claim that they talk back.
  • Abraham believed God wanted him to sacrifice his son as many other people at the time did sacrifice humans to appease their gods. God did not actually ask Abraham to sacrifice his son, but he did stop him when Abraham said a prayer to God saying "God if you wish me to sacrifice my son to you I will do so willingly as your servant." God immediately answered "NO!!! I do not want you to kill your son for me, that was a man made ritual that I condemn. Now that you have heard my true voice, tell all your followers that human sacrifice is outlawed" Abraham was the one who listened to God unlike many others who assumed to know what God wanted of them. God would never ask us to cause another pain and suffering. And I know the bible is full of that but it was not God they were listening to, it was their own ego's that they assumed were God. God's voice is very small and very quiet within us. To hear it we must such off all our own wants and desires. Many who are portrayed throughout the bible did not shut off their ego's. Look at king David for goodness sake, not exactly God's perfect choice but it is what mankind got through free will. Just because it's in the bible doesn't mean it's true. And no I would not ever sacrifice anyone but myself for God and I know he/she would never ask me. But I would die before I denied God's unconditional love for us all. But that would be my choice not his command. As it was Jesus' choice and not God's command.
  • I fear some people would say yes.....
  • No. I'd have my head checked. Schizos have God complexes.
  • Then his not god anymore.....
  • no, cause i know i'd be crazy/someone trying to screw me over if "god" was talking to me, being atheist and all....
  • If I were Abraham, then yes... you have to know god and be surrendered.
  • No I would not. +5
  • Jehovah had identified Isaac as the long-awaited heir. (Genesis 21:12) So Abraham must have been stunned when God asked him to sacrifice his son. Yet, Abraham had sound reasons to trust God implicitly. Was Jehovah not able to raise Isaac from the dead? (Hebrews 11:17-19 Had God not proved his power by miraculously reviving the reproductive powers of Abraham and Sarah in order to bring about Isaac’s birth in the first place? (Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90.) Convinced of God’s ability to fulfill His promises, Abraham was ready to obey. True, he was prevented from actually slaying his son. (Genesis 22:1-14) Nevertheless, the role Abraham played in this regard helps us to see how difficult it must have been for Jehovah God to ‘give his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.’—John 3:16; Matthew 20:28. Indeed, this man of unusual faith walked with God, received communications from him by means of visions and dreams, and entertained his angelic messengers. (Ge 12:1-3, 7; 15:1-8, 12-21; 18:1-15; 22:11, 12, 15-18) What great faith Abraham had in God! He believed that nothing was impossible for Jehovah, and that Jehovah could even raise Isaac from the dead. But it was not really God’s will for Abraham to kill Isaac. So God caused a sheep to get caught in some nearby bushes, and he told Abraham to sacrifice it instead of his son. Isaic too desplayed great faith in this instance. When this happened Isaic was 20 years old. Certainly if he had wanted to he could have resisted his elderly father (now 120 years old). This kind of faith is difficult for some to imagine...But for those who truly believe that by obedience we will share in God's grand promise for the future....We would much rather sacrifice the life we have now (if need be) rather than break God's laws..
  • In this day and age, how many children have been sacrificed to the God of war...No one seems to question what parents do when they send their children off to war to be killed. In fact, aren't they more often regarded as heroes. It comes down to who are we willing to obey.
  • Very funny question. What is God? Please define.
