I'll have to check my Beatles literature again and get back to you. lol Edit: Here are the results on my "reseach". lol It's about the pitfalls in life, according to Paul. In Paul's words: "the song epitomizeds the downfalls in life. As soon as everything is going right, there comes a "silver hammer" down on your hear that ruins everything." John, on the other hand, reported that the song was their first one about "instant karma", in other words it represented the immediate payback you will receive when you do something wrong, meaning Maxwell's silver hammer will come down on you head and punish you.
