I was not aware that parents could call the police on their kids for anything. I'm almost certain the child still has to be breaking the law, and not listening to mommy and daddy isn't necessarily breaking the law.

it depends wat it is

Since the parents are held legal responsible for the actions of their children (and by responsible I'm talking $$) then yes, I think it is right that they can call the cops on a kid who don't listen. Parents pay for food, shelter, clothing, medical expenses, entertainment, etc. As long as the child is not being abused then obedience should be expected. It's a life lesson. Do you think an employer is going to retain an employee who doesn't follow the rules?

Everyone has free will. People under 18 just don't have as many state-protected rights as adults. This is because they are also not held liable for any harm they might cause. It must seem discriminatory that there is an arbitrary line at the age of 18 (21 in Mississippi!). You would think that anyone who is responsible enough to handle the results of their actions should be given the rights of an adult. The problem with that is it is just too complex and time consuming to evaluate each person on an individual basis. The test we have now, "Are you 18?", while imperfect, is much more efficient. If you can prove to the court that you are capable of handling the responsibilities of adulthood before you reach the age of 18, then you can petition to become an emancipated minor. You will need to show that you have an imcome and your own place to live. So long as you have the right to demand that your parents feed and clothe you, then your parents have a right to make you obey their rules. By the way, your parents can not call the police just because you disobeyed them. The police are only interested if you have broken the law, in which case it is your parents who are liable for any damage you may have caused. You'll be out in the real world soon enough, and you'll find out how painful and complicated it can be. You should enjoy your childhood while you can.
