He wasn't the only one. Don't you remember that big episode where he tricked everyone into coming over to his nest to see Snuffy? From Wikipedia: This running gag ended with the November 18, 1985 episode of Sesame Street, which was also episode 2096 and the 17th season premiere, when the adults finally met Snuffy. Big Bird is sick and tired of not having the grown-ups believing him when he tells them about Snuffy. So he decides to arrange for them to come to his nest when he yells the signaling word, "Food." When Big Bird calls out the word, Snuffy runs off to tell his mother about it, so once again the grown-ups just miss him. Gordon, wanting to help, suggests to Big Bird that he needs someone to help him keep Snuffy in his nest and Elmo offers to be the one. So when Snuffy returns, Elmo holds on to his snuffle so he cannot go, Big Bird yells, "Food," and one by one the adults come and see Snuffy for the first time ever. After Snuffy introduces himself, Big Bird does an "I told you so" routine to the adults.

I could see Snuffy just fine. So I don't think he was schizo at all.

Nope. Snuffleupagus was real, but the sdults didn't see him for a long time. I was just reminded of this by my husband a few days ago, in fact.

Poor Big Bird nearly went off the deep end over this one. I was so delighted when it finally ended. Of course, I was 22 at the time.
-
No ... he just had a buddy who came and went often ... since the viewing audience could see him and since eventually the other characters met him too, it was obvious that Snuffy was not a delusion. .
-
It took some work, but we were able to get Big Bird's medications adjusted. Now he just sees what we tell him to see.
-
No..he was the Sesame Street Resident Seer...comparable to the Oracle of Delphi! :)
-
I am laughing my ass of thinking about this. What a trippy thing to recall.
-
No, but the guy who thought up snuffy was tripping on LSD at the time
-
Dear lord, I hope not!!! Because I see him too!
