Yes, several. They're doing okay - good attitude is everything, and people can do loads of interesting and useful things without being able to walk.

Yes. It doesn't make her any different than anyone else. Still a person with hopes, dreams, feelings and character.

My Father In Law has to use a wheel chair to get around because he abused his feet with improper shoes most of his life. His feet got so infected that they had to be operated on and he now can no longer walk.

A family friend of ours is paralyzed from the neck down, and , obviously, in a wheelchair. He's been in it for almost 20 yrs. He was in a car accident, got on top of his wife to protect her, and that is how it happened. His stupid b*tch wife left him a couple months later for his best friend. He is now happily married to his caretaker, she's a real sweetheart!

Yes my sister's grandson is a quadriplegic due to a car accident when he was 21. It happened about 8 years ago and fortunately he has gone on, obtained an education and it appears he is coping quite well.

I know LOTS of nice folks!

They were born with physical challenges.

They were in automobile and motor vehicle crashes.

    They were shot.

They fell off ladders, trampolines, dove into the shallow end of a pool or hit a rock diving off a pier, fell down steps, etc.

Each and every one of them does the absolute best he/she can to continue living a full and productive life.

Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!

yes i often come across ppl who have a lifetime sentence bestowed upon them, as im in the caring profession, and the amazing thing is, how well they appear to have accepted it, and not dwell in self pity, and strive to be as independant as possible, its humbling at times

I work at a nursing home so I see many, many people who are in wheelchairs for the rest of their lives. They don't seem to mind too much, as long as they can read books and complain about the weather! :)

Yes. Some are really fully functional. Some not so much. The first who comes to mind has a really nice electric chair and is largely independent... he just has no use of his legs, and his wife has to care for him. I always kind of wonder how that works, but wouldn't dream of asking.

Many of our club members use wheelchairs.
A friend of mine has gone back to a manual chair to rebuild muscles.
Power chairs are not the go.
If you dont use it you will loose it!
Keeping muscle tone is very important for most of us.

Yes I do. The causes vary, as do the extent of their disabilities.

I have a good and astonishingly beautiful friend with spinal muscular atrophy who has never walked in her life, and another with spina bifida who can stand briefly holding on, but cannot walk. Both of them have good lives, and being in a chair is normal for them.

I have known plenty of other over the years who use chairs permanently, particularly through a support group that I help run.

I have uses crutches since I was 12, but I will occasionally use a wheelchair for the rest of my life.

Sure do, ME! I thought it would be the worst thing in the world, but the worst thing would be to not be able to see my son. I have RSD/CRPS. No cure, progressive Stage 3 me. But I will trust in my Faith to carry me through, and I try to find something that pleases me daily so I may say "Thank you so much," to someone. Then we both smile. I'm more "human" and "normal" to people who are uncomfortable around me and I get to have a happy moment in my day.
