Just what does that designation mean anyway? That you know everything there is to know about the category and no one knows more than you? Or is it just that you haunt that category relentlessly just so you will be called an "expert"?

They just happened. I'm actually surprised that I'm currently the "expert" in Africa.

I answered more questions on Etymology than others. I found that half of my answers were chosen as top answers. I did not know the gap between my points and the points of expert of that category. One fine day, I found my name as expert. I think such a surprise is a good way. If all the statistics are available in a table, some persons may have some craving or adopt some undue methods to become experts - whether successful or not.
