No. I view the surrounding area pretty closely, the noise level of the complex, and always ask to see the room I will be staying in before I pay. I always check the bed for comfort and the room for cleanliness. While my efforts are not a 100% guarantee, I've been fortunate enough not to have any bad experiences.

I have this nasty tendency to block really negative things like that so i can't name names with any degree of certainty, but, I stayed at one of those dirt cheap week-long stay places in Tennessee that I'd hope to never have to stay at ever again and was there for a solid month.
there was also some cheap either Motel6 or 8 on the way back from Florida, some 15 years ago that was such a cockroach infested rattrap I'd hope to never land there again.

    Just like the TV commercial...

I got stuck at a hotel under renovation.

Holiday Inn in the Minneapolis if I recall correctly, no warning when the reservation was made.

    Yarnlady is happy every day

The Wyndham in Commerce City CA. The last time I stayed there, I woke up covered with ants. I had to throw my nightgown away, because I didn't want ants in my suitcase, and they didn't even reimburse me for the cost of a new nightgown.

The gave me a free buffet meal until Hubby could come and get me after his meeting ended.

I had a very bad experience at the Concord Inn in Concord Massachusetts. Not only was it noisy and their food sucked, but they altered the check I used to pay the bill, adding a substantial amount. I paid what they asked. If they made a mistake, I feel that was THEIR problem. I finally did get the money back, but I also received a nasty letter from the saying that I was going to be black-listed from every resort in New England.

We were in a small town in Texas one time, staying at a Holiday Inn Express. An ice storm hit, and all the highways were shut down, so we tried to get our room for a couple more nights until the storm blew past. The hotel was booked solid, and the only available rooms were at an old, cold, small, dingy, motel. It was bad!

I was trying to take this shower and Norman Bates showed up with more towels. What is it with him and his towels?

I was staying at a hotel when I first moved to California, and I noticed a roach in the microwave, not the cooking area, but in the buttons and clock display area. So I picked it up and took it to the manager, he apologised and offered me a different microwave, so we went to the room next door, and he picked up the microwave, and underneath that was a crack pipe. Needless to say, never going back there again.

My husband and I stayed at a Ramada Inn at Niagara Falls, NY and when he sat on the toilet in the room, his junk got wet from the water in the bowl. I heard about this for weeks afterward... never happened before or after.

Yes, and I wish the heck I could recall the name and I am not going to bother researching it. But it was in San Diego and considered mid-high end. slept there 2 nights and the last morning I threw back the bedspread and there was blood on it. gag! I should have demanded at least one night's stay refunded but we just up and left. You really don't want to know what is on the linens and what they don't clean in your room. I would rather camp in my car than stay in a Hotel.
