  • any zombie movie no matter how cheesy scares the living poo out of me
  • No. I thought this movie was a near work of art. Sure I got some complaints, it's a little too long and too much of it is dark and you can barely see anything and what is happening at times. But otherwise, I completely loved it. As George Romero is famous for doing, we have the general zombie setup where nobody knows what's going on, and the new twist on the main characters traveling on the roads recording the events instead of staying put in one place made it different then most zombie movies, and offered a new opportunity for innovation and ''variety''. The story included some hilarious moments, some poignant moments, and some extremely disturbing atmospheric elements, like the hospital scene or the ''state troopers''. We also have, once again a trait made famous by Romero, the festival of panic and fear and inhuman behaviour from all the people affected by this outbreak, showing us that humans in dire situations and when faced with raw threats to their lives are worse company then the zombies themselves. We witness people spiraling downwards as their morality and sanity slowly begin to leave them, some slow, some very fast, but either way it affects everyone. The imagery and narrative I loved especially. The story was well executed which is something that's often missing from a concept as simple as a zombie film, I completely appreciated it, even though in simpler terms it works just as well. And although it bugged me that everything was always so dark, other then that I love the gritty and moody visuals, it was just damn creepy, and hanging bodies and dead people sprawled on the street was creepy. The opening scene is something else, too. There's also its fair amount of gore, which has to come with a zombie film of course, but none of it is over the top or exaggerated; which really makes it all the more creepy if you ask me. Ha ha and also, an eye wink at Day of the Dead in this one, where the hospital zombie's guts plop out. Okay so some of it is overdone...scythe and sword scene...but at least it's overdone WELL. And how could you not love ''Samuel''?! Lol! My boyfriend completely hated it because he said it was too long and boring and not gory enough, and everyone else at work told me it also sucked, one guy didn't even finish watching it. So maybe I view them differently or I just have really bad taste, but to me this is so far the ''steak and wine'' of zombie films. I can understand people's distaste because zombie films aren't supposed to be thought provoking with post apocalyptic symbolism, the observation of human emotion and behaviour or even cinematographic philosophy, it's just supposed to be fun and scary, but I at least thought that the new turn this film took by having the characters travel and see different zombie infested places and situations would have been enjoyable as opposed to people quarreling in the same place for two hours, but I really and sincerely completely enjoyed it. :)
  • Haven't seen it; didn't know about it; thanks for the tip! :)
  • I love zombies! BRAINS!!!
  • I actualy enjoyed it
  • I ordered it tonight, on Pay Per View, and I think it was a fine piece of work, truly a classic. It was a little different, but, that should only help it to stand out for many years.
  • I so desperatly wanted to like this movie. I'm a huge fan of zombie movies, and I thought that Diary of the Dead was a pretty good concept when I first heard of it. I'm sure that the choice to not use camcorders was an attempt to win over the anti-Blair Witch or anti-Cloverfield naysayers, but I found the choice of using actual cinema-quality cameras detracted from the the movie's attempt at realism. It seemed that everyone on camera was a bad actor trying to act like they weren't acting. None of the dialogue or reactions seemed authentic to what would happen in real life. A lot of the situations felt staged, a negative for a movie that's supposed to look like a documentary. Perhaps most egregiously was that a couple times in the movie, it all devolved into a teen slasher who-dunnit, with a lone zombie lurking around the building picking people off one-by-one.
  • *shrugs* i enjoyed it
