In New Jersey it is the law to keep right. The left lane is for passing. If the police car's lights are not flashing they will soon if you are not passing someone in the right lane. In Germany, on the Autobahn, they take this very seriously. It is a fine equivelent to $400.

By law, probably not. but, you never know where the officer is going. it could be to a burglary at your home, or some other important police call. Most states have laws that state the slower moving traffic, should stay in the right lane. Its always a good idea to move over, because of the unknown.

YES!!!! oh my god we hate that you have to move over for EVERYONE if you are in the left lane keep right pass left, you can get a ticket for stayin in the passing lane without passing especially if there is a cop behind you

The only times you should even be in the left lane is either when the person in front of you in the right lane is DRIVING SLOWER than the posted speed limit or if there is an emergency or emergency vehicle on the right side of the road.

I got pulled over by a cop in New York State for the very same reason. He didn't give me a ticket but he yelled at me.

Do you actually have a license from the state of New Jersey to drive a motorized vehicle? If you do please relinquish it to the state immediately because nitwits like yourself shouldn't be allowed near a major highway never mind behind the controls of a car on one!

If its HOV lane time, and you are single in an automobile, i would definetely move over. this is a citable offense. If you are going the speed limit, then every citized has the same right to be in the fast lane. If you are not going the speed limit, you might be cited for impeding traffic.
